Nearly one in seven SC children are assessed as not ready for first grade. In some communities, this statistic is as poor as one in four, or greater. The assistant utilities director for Seneca, Dewitt Martin, left last night's city council meeting with an engraved plaque in recognition of 20 years service to the former Oconee Sewer Commission and the modern day Oconee Joint Regional Sewer Authority. Until recently replaced, Martin served as a Seneca representative to the authority which sets policy for wastewater services in Oconee County. The plaque was presented by Mayor Dan Alexander, who said it is his city's intentions...

Jan Oliver has been appointed the new Fire Chief for the Seneca Fire Department. Jan has been with the Department since March of 1986 and was Captain before being awarded Chiefs position. He was Fire Marshall for 5 years so Chief Oliver brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to his new position as Fire Chief of the Seneca Fire Department. Congratulations Fire Chief Jan Oliver!

Justyn Gibson, an 8th grader at West Oak Middle School, job shadowed his grandmother Code Enforcement Officer Tina Kirby on Friday, February 25, 2011. He was able to view and participate in some of the duties that his grandmother and other employees do throughout the day. Plus, a lot of the employees had the previlige to meet Justyn.
Justyn's grandfather Detective Ken Kirby also works for the City of Seneca.
