The Blue Ridge Arts Center is proud to announce the opening of the 34th Annual Traveling Show of the South Carolina Watermedia Society, opening July 3 in the BRAC Gallery. This exciting exhibition is hugely diverse, containing watercolor, acrylic, gouache, and mixed media. Subject matter ranges from the traditional portraits and landscapes to abstract and pop art, tranquil to trendy in mood, hugely different in effect. It is an impressive display of work from strong artists who are mostly from South Carolina, North Carolina, and Georgia.

This year’s show was juried by Mary Alice Baukman, a watercolorist and collage artist from Florida who has ties to the Blue Ridge Mountains. She said of the selections that she was looking for strong composition and design as well as unique subject matter. She certainly found what she was looking for!

The Society is the largest statewide visual arts group and has been promoting its artist’s work since 1977. The paintings in the exhibit are almost all available for purchase, but must remain with the show until it’s close in September.

The reception for this exhibit will be Friday, July 20 at 5:30 and can be viewed during regular gallery hours, Tuesday through Friday, 1:00 to 5:00, July 3 through July 27. BRAC will be closed July 4.

*****VOLUNTEERS NEEDED*****

For those of you with a great personality and a winning smile...BRAC wants you! If you could give 4 hours a month of your time to serve as a docent, our staff and visitors would be thrilled! IF YOU ARE AN ARTIST, you may display three pieces of your art in the lobby (priced to sell) on the day that you work. The main duties include greeting visitors with that great smile (and kind words) having guests sign the visitor log, and showing guests our exhibits. Plus you can have cookies and coffee if you wish. There are other simple tasks you can choose from such as dusting, sweeping, stuffing envelopes, and filing library cards - nothing too hard. Please call the office at 864-882-2722 or email me, Deb King, at bobanddeb4671@att.net to tell me when you can help. Thanks!
