The Scarecrows are Coming to Seneca

THE SENECA SCARECROW FEST is the first ever Scarecrow Decorating Contest. It will be throughout the month of October. Ballot boxes will be located in the foyer at City Hall on North First Street , Porta Portese at 112 Ram Cat Alley and Ye Olde Sandwich Shoppe 124 North Townville Street. Any business, school, church, service group or individual can enter and show off their scarecrow creating skills. There is a $20 entry fee and all registration forms must be sent to the Downtown Seneca Merchant Association at 112 Ram Cat Alley, Seneca, 29678 by October 23, 2012. Voting will take place October 25th through October 30th. Ballots will be available online beginning October 25th at www.RamCatAlleySC.com and at all ballot box locations.

THE SENECA SCARECROW FEST is a great way to showcase your business or organization, what you do, or what’s important to you. Plus, we will be providing free advertising of the scarecrows all over the area. Everyone in the community is invited to visit the Scarecrows all over town during the month of October and vote for their favorite. Cash prizes will be awarded in each category at the City of Seneca’s big event... Halloween on the Green!!

THE SENECA SCARECROW FEST will take place in the afternoon of October 31st. The fun begins at 5:00pm in the heart of downtown Seneca. Look for Music, food, games, a candy stroll, vendors and special events for all ages. We will announce the winners of the Seneca Scarecrow Fest Contest at 7:00pm and award the cash prizes.

Come in costume or come as you are but just come join us for a good old fashion hometown celebration!!! We hope to see you there!!!

Rules and Regulations for Participants in the Seneca Scarecrow Fest 2012


Rules for the Seneca Scarecrow Fest Contest

1. Scarecrows must be in place no earlier than October 1st. Scarecrows will be voted on October 25th through October 30th at 5 p.m. They must remain in place until Saturday, November 3rd. This time schedule must be observed in order to have your scarecrow voted on for the contest. You are responsible for being watchful of your scarecrow during the time period for needed repairs.

2. Scarecrows should be family-friendly. Make them whimsical, humorous, mischievous or loveable. Scarecrows must be done in good taste. It can be an individual scarecrow or a group of scarecrows if necessary to portray your theme or name for your creation.

3. Businesses may utilize existing lampposts in front of their business. It is suggested that the business reflect the product/service they provide. Care must be given in the placement of scarecrows so as not to impede pedestrian traffic or to cause a hazard. Care must be taken no to damage the lamp posts so all scarecrows must be attached with cable ties.

4. Since all scarecrows must remain in place until November 3rd, their construction should be durable and all ornamentation securely attached and able to stand up to the sun, wind and rain. Carved pumpkins or other living material that will not last the duration of the contest are discouraged. Un-carved pumpkins, corn stalks, gourds and other dried material or artificial flowers are best. Use care when selecting your materials. It is your responsibility to monitor your scarecrow during the exhibition time period to assure it is in good condition.

5. Maximum height allowed is 8 feet. Your display may have more than one figure if needed to interpret your theme.

6. Downtown Seneca Merchant Association is not responsible for the security of scarecrows on display. Photos and names will be used for promotional purposes.

7. A sign must be displayed with your entry number. This sign will be provided by DSMA from the entry fee collected.

8. Scarecrow frames cost $5.00 each. These may be purchased at 112 Ram Cat Alley Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Checks payable to Downtown Seneca Merchant Asscociation.

9. Entry fee per display is $20.00. Mail completed forms to Downtown Seneca Merchant Association c/o Scarecrow Entry, 112 Ram Cat Alley, Seneca, SC 29678, or drop off to 112 Ram Cat Alley, Seneca, Monday through Saturday 10am-5pm. Once entry forms are complete, signs and entry numbers will be available for pick up at Porta Portese located at 112 Ram Cat Alley, Seneca. Entry deadline is October 23rd, 2012.

10. Winners in each category will be announced at Halloween on the Green in Downtown Seneca October 31, 2012 at 7:00pm.
