Spring Planting Festival

Spring Planting Festival, Sunday, March 17, 3-5 PM
A free and open-to-the-public the Spring Planting Festival will be held on the grounds of the Historic Ballenger House, located at the corner of East South Third and Depot Streets in Seneca, on Sunday, March 17th from 3-5 PM. Sponsored by the Seneca woman’s Club, there will be activities to appeal to all ages.

Members of the Seneca High School Future Farmers of America have organized fun and instructive games & activities for youngsters: Seed bingo, pin the part on the plant, proper planting techniques, and many more. The goal is for kids to have fun learning where their food comes from and perhaps become interested in gardening and farming. The agricultural educator and FFA advisor is Ms. Christina Alexander, President is Josh Latimer, VP is Kathryn Landreth.

Adults may “ask the experts” & get tips on how to grow abundant and beautiful vegetable, herb, and flower gardens from: Bob Polomski, Ph.D. Extension Consumer Horticulturist at Clemson University and author of “Month-by-Month Gardening in the Carolinas;” Bill R. Smith, Ph.D. Clemson University Professor Emeritus of Soils; and, Morris Warner, Clemson University Cooperative Agricultural Extension Agent for Oconee County.

Demonstrations in the use of antique farm machinery, including a seed cleaner, corn sheller, corn mill and cotton gin will be provided by the Harbin Family. Their Oconee County farm is operated as it would have been in earlier days, fascinating to history buffs and interesting for all!
Contact Melinda Harbin (919-723-0698) for additional information. Rain date - Sunday, March 24th.
