Warm a Child for the Winter with Blankets for First Steps

City of Seneca Employees proudly participated in collecting warm blankets for Oconee County First Steps.

SENECA - With hundreds of children under the age of six living in poverty in the county, Oconee County First Steps hopes to meet a critical need by collecting new blankets in the "Warm a Child for the Winter" project.

Now in its eighth year, this year's blanket collection ended with success on Nov. 10, according to Marie Dunham, First Steps executive director.

"This program which has become our signature project began with board member Sally Long making the suggestion," Dunham said. "We all got on board with the idea and it has been very beneficial to the community."

New blankets of all types (baby blankets, knitted throws, single and double blankets) are being requested from agencies, businesses, churches, companies, individuals, organizations and the community at large, Dunham said.
