Seneca hosting 2016 Oconee County Veteran's Day Parade

The 2016 Oconee County Veterans Day Parade takes place this year in the City of Seneca. The community is encouraged to make signs, waive flags, dress in red, white, and blue and thank the county’s veterans for their service and sacrifice to keep our nation free.

This annual parade saluting the veterans of the Golden Corner of South Carolina rotates each year between the three cities in the county.

“It is rotated between Westminster, Walhalla, and Seneca. This year it will be in historic, downtown Seneca and we are so thankful for that,” said Janice Matheson Holbrooks, Assistant Director of the Oconee County Veterans Affairs Office.

All businesses, churches, civic clubs, walkers, bikers, etc. are encourage to enter the parade this year.

“We will be meeting at Norton-Thompson Park in the large parking lot downtown. You can call the Oconee County Veterans Affairs Office at 864-638-4231, if you would like to participate in the parade. But you don’t have to call, you can just show up,” said Holbrooks

If you can’t be in the parade, make a sign saying, “Thank You Veterans”. Waive it at all the veterans that will be in the parade as they go by.

This year’s Grand Marshals for the 2016 Oconee County Veterans Day Parade in downtown Seneca are members of law enforcement.

“The Oconee County Veterans Council decided to honor law enforcement this year and they will be our Grand Marshals,” added Holbrooks.

Therefore, police officers, sheriff’s deputies, and troopers with the Highway Patrol will be honored during the parade for keeping us safe at home while soldiers defend our freedoms around the globe.

The 2016 Oconee County Veterans Day Parade takes place on Veterans Day, Friday, Nov. 11, 2016, with staging at 3:30pm and the parade starting at 4:30pm. Please come support our veterans on this special day.
