POSITION DESCRIPTION

ELECTRIC LOAD MANAGEMENT SUPERVISOR



GENERAL PURPOSE

Manages all aspects of electric generation, including but not limited to; continuously monitoring the electric load from the city’s wholesale electric provider and operating city owned diesel generation at the appropriate time to reduce the city’s measured electric load. Reports to the Director of Utilities.

ESSENTIAL SAFETY FUNCTIONS

It is the responsibility of each employee to comply with established policies, procedures and safe work practices. Each employee must follow safety training and instructions provided by their supervisor. Each employee must also properly wear and maintain all personal protective equipment required for their job. Finally, each employee must immediately report any unsafe work practices or unsafe conditions as well as any on-the-job injuries or illnesses.

Every manager/supervisor is responsible for enforcing all safety rules and regulations. In addition, they are responsible for ensuring that a safe work environment is maintained, safe work practices are followed and employees are properly trained.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervises all aspects of city owned electric generation operations.
• Monitors electric load daily.
• Works closely with the wholesale electric provider to ensure city generation operates during peak load periods as defined in the city’s wholesale electric contract.
• Ensures that all mechanical and electrical equipment pertaining to the city’s generation facilities are in proper working condition.
• Ensures that there are proper tools and equipment needed to perform their job.
• Ensures generation facilities are clean and orderly.
• Ensures proper records are maintained for all areas of generation operations.
• Responsible for all generation fuel inventory.
• Responsible for all environmental permitting with the SC Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC), ensuring all information is complete and accurate.


PERIPHERAL DUTIES

• Maintain all North American Reliability Corporation (NERC) and SERC Reliability Corporation (SERC) compliance reporting.


DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience:

(A) Minimum of a two-year technical associates degree or equivalent. and
(B) Five (5) years of experience in electric utility industry or related field; or
(C) Any equivalent combination of education and experience.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Basic computer usage including MS Excel, MS Word, internet, e-mail, etc.
• Working knowledge of basic electric theory to include basic operations of electric utilities.
• Must understand system voltages, current flow, and short circuit current flow.
• Must have an interest and/or knowledge of diesel-engine generating systems.
• Ability to perform and record arithmetic computations accurately.
• Ability to accurately read and record data from various types of formats.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
• Ability to establish successful working relationships.


SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

Must possess a Commercial Driver’s License or ability to obtain one.
